Access, Equity, Inclusion Fund

About Overview

CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR
New submissions will be accepted September 1, 2012.

The following is an outline for proposals to the Access Equity Inclusion Funding process. It is intended to address requests for one-time funding of not more than $2000 and not less than $200. All proposals should be submitted at least four to six weeks in advance of need, but early application is highly encouraged. The time frame for processing funding requests will take place from September 1st thru June 30th of each year, or until the fund pool is depleted. Requests for funding will be reviewed by committee and measured against all the requests received. The committee may send your requests back and require additional information before approval. Approved funding is considered supplimental and will not be approved as a primary source, competitive proposals will receive funding from other sources. Funds granted from this source will be used to broaden Access, promote Equity and foster Inclusion.

Project Summary (one paragraph)

In a few sentences, briefly describe the project, its cost, the time frame, who will oversee the proposal, why the project is important for Emory University, how the project will be evaluated, and why it is appropriate for Community and Diversity to fund this proposal.

Project Description:

The project description should be no more than three pages and include the following:

  1. Description of the project's goals, objectives, and methods, and the importance of the project to Emory University;
  2. Timeframe for the project;
  3. Description of how it meets particular campus needs;
  4. Description of the project's importance and strengths at Emory and/or evidence that such programs have proven successful in other settings;
  5. Description of who will undertake the project, and why these individuals or groups have the capacity to achieve their goals;
  6. Description of what groups/individuals on campus the project will reach, and how they will benefit from the project and the number of participants;
  7. Description of the expected outcome of the project and how its success or impact will be documented, evaluated, and disseminated;
  8. Description of how the project supplements, complements, or supports existing projects or programs;
  9. Description of how the project, if a multi-year program will be sustained in the future; and
  10. Description of collaboration of the project with other program areas at Emory, if applicable. (This point is very important).

Project Budget:

The budget need not be detailed and can be one page or less. It should include basic project costs, in specific areas such as supplies and materials, stipends, speakers' fees, equipment rental, postage and other publicity costs, etc. If the project is intended to span more than one academic year, then a budget should be provided for each year. Please be reminded that the Office of Community and Diversity will provide funding on only a one-time basis. All other sources (and potential sources) of funding should be listed with the funding request.

Each proposal should indicate the departmental account to which any award should be transferred and should make clear how the budget will be monitored and who is responsible for ensuring appropriate oversight. This is particularly important in the case of student proposals, which are required to have a project advisor and academic content.

Commitments and Amount Requested

Your proposal should include a list of other departments/organizations who have commitments on this project, and how much they are contributing. Proposals with great community support are usually the strongest applicants for this fund. You should also include the amount you are requesting from this fund, keeping in mind the maximum approval is $2000 and the committee can decide to approve less or deny the request.

Attachments:

Proposal attachments should be kept to a minimum, but might include:

  1. Letters of support from other program areas on campus, such as co-funders and co-sponsors.
  2. Background material or articles about the proposal that will help the committee to evaluate the soundness of this request.

After completing your proposal, please direct your proposal and attachments to:
