Provost McBride Announces New Dean of Emory Law

From the Provost's Desk

Dear Members of the Emory Community:

I am pleased to announce that Mary Anne Bobinski will join our community as dean of Emory Law, effective August 2019.

Professor Bobinski is a recognized scholar in health law and currently serves as a professor at the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. I take particular pride in this announcement, given that she will be the first woman to serve in the role since our law school's founding in 1916.

During her tenure as dean of the Allard School of Law (2003-2015), she led a successful capital campaign to enhance the law school's endowment and construct a new building for the law school. She also worked closely with faculty, staff, and students to establish and carry out an ambitious and comprehensive strategic plan for the law school.

Earlier in her career, Professor Bobinski served as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Houston Law Center in Texas, where she was also a John and Rebecca Moores Professor of Law and the director of what was, during her term, the top-ranked health law program in the United States.

Among her priority responsibilities at Emory, Professor Bobinski will be charged with developing a strategic plan to build on the law school's efforts to address challenges facing legal education in the 21st century. Given her track record, we could not have found a more transformative leader for Emory Law.

Please join us as we welcome our new dean to Emory.

Sincerely,

Dwight A. McBride, PhD
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
