Lanny Liebeskind Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

As senior vice provost for academic affairs, Lanny will provide leadership, mentoring, and transition support for the Office of the Provost, working closely with other senior leaders within the division and across the university to continue advancing important efforts in academic leadership recruitment and development, continually improving the faculty experience, and furthering signature initiatives such as AI.Humanity. 

A seasoned member of the Office of the Provost team, prior to accepting the senior vice provost position Lanny served for 5 years as senior associate dean of research in Emory College, 10 years as director of the Office of University Science Strategies, and since 2015 as vice provost for strategic research initiatives. He is also Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Chemistry. He will use his experienced leadership, deep knowledge of Emory’s academic affairs, and highly collaborative approach to serve the Office of the Provost and the university.

  • Promoted to professor at Emory and awarded a Samuel Candler Dobbs Chair in Chemistry (1988)
  • Received an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship, a Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation Teacher-Scholar Award, and an Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Research Award
  • Elected a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (2015)
  • Appointed to the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic
