Warm Holiday Wishes and Farewell Thoughts from Provost McBride

Video Transcript

This is my favorite time of year. The rhythms of the academic calendar and the changing seasons align, giving us time to reflect on connections that are both personal and universal.

I’ve been contemplating what an honor it has been to serve as your provost and to be in community with you.

I have been inspired by, and am grateful for, our practice of convening, collaborating, and celebrating the accomplishments of our community. This tradition of gathering strengthens our bonds and creates opportunities for more collaboration and collegiality. It affirms our purpose and invigorates our resolve to be One Emory.

As faculty, students, and staff, you have embraced the spirit of One Emory and our aspiration to be a leading research university.

Together, we have accomplished much, and there is still more to do. We have a history and a future. But today is where we live. As James Baldwin wrote, “The challenge is in the moment; the time is always now.”

So, I ask you to remain focused on the goals that will further strengthen the Emory community. Continue to foster a culture of eminence that attracts and inspires scholars of the highest order. Continue to cultivate a vibrant and compelling student experience. Continue to embolden imagination and discovery to address 21st century challenges. Continue to unleash Emory and Atlanta’s shared future to mobilize change for a better world.

I thank you for the privilege of serving with you. I am grateful to have met you as faculty, students, and staff, and to have come to know you as friends and colleagues. May all of the joys of the season and the best of your future come to pass.

Happy holidays and onward and upward.
