Susan Bonifield provides institution-wide guidance for budget and financial planning, along with serving as a consultant for the executive vice presidents, deans, and other senior administrative leaders.

As senior vice provost for strategic financial and resource planning, Bonifield serves as a chief adviser to the provost on matters related to the effective planning processes that support strong stewardship and investment of university resources in support of Emory's academic aspirations. Bonifield works in close concert with the vice president for finance and treasury to further advance Emory's financial management structure. She oversees the Office of Planning and Administration, which is responsible for facilitating and integrating university-wide strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation, and she supports data-driven decision making.

Prior to her arrival at Emory, Bonifield spent 21 years at Duke University, gaining expertise in financial management and planning at the Duke Heart Center as senior strategic services associate and administrative director before joining the university's Pratt School of Engineering. There, she served as associate dean and then senior associate dean of finance and planning.

The best way for me to support the academic mission is to build strong partnerships based on transparency and trust with my colleagues in all parts of the university. I am committed to being accessible to our schools and units, and I place a strong focus on collaboration and creating a culture of collegiality among my colleagues. Fundamentally, my role is to whatever I can to support the academic mission.
