Dear Emory Community,

After a comprehensive international search, we are very pleased to announce the appointment of M. Daniele (Dani) Fallin, PhD, as the new James W. Curran Dean of Public Health at the Rollins School of Public Health. She will join Emory University on July 1, 2022.

Dr. Fallin currently serves as chair of the Department of Mental Health for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is the Sylvia and Harold Halpert Professor and Bloomberg Centennial Professor. She holds joint appointments in the Bloomberg School’s Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s Departments of Medicine and Psychiatry. Dr. Fallin is also director of the Wendy Klag Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities and has led the center since its establishment by the Bloomberg School in 2013.

Dr. Fallin’s expertise and leadership experience make her an outstanding choice for dean of the Rollins School of Public Health. Her collaborative approach to addressing national trends and issues in the public health world supports Emory’s vision focused on student flourishing, faculty eminence and research excellence. It will also build upon Rollins’ phenomenal reputation and mission to impact the health and well-being of people locally and globally through excellence in teaching, research and the application of knowledge in partnership with domestic and global communities.

Known as a tireless advocate for public mental health, Dr. Fallin has built a significant portfolio of mental health research, education and practice in her current role and has also focused on the well-being, health and safety of faculty, staff and students. She has led numerous university-wide efforts at Johns Hopkins to include a Student Mental Health and Wellness Task Force and a COVID Mental Health Task Force for the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

We would like to thank the search committee co-chairs, Drs. Linda McCauley, dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and R. Paul Johnson, director of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and members of the search committee who shared their guidance and expertise as the university selected its next leader for Rollins.

Finally, we want to express our sincere thanks to James W. Curran for his unwavering dedication to Emory and the Rollins School of Public Health. We believe Dr. Fallin's vision for the future will build upon the amazing success that Dr. Curran has achieved during his tenure to position Rollins as a global leader.
