Compassion in a Time of Crisis

Dear Emory students,

As I know you are aware, the devastating war in Israel and Gaza is deeply distressing to many members of our community. Some have family, friends, or colleagues who have been directly impacted by the crisis, as President Fenves shared in his message last week. Others, like myself, are heartbroken by the suffering and loss of life we have witnessed from afar.

While we are each experiencing this tragedy in personal ways, I wanted to assure you that you are also part of a larger community that cares about you.

If you are struggling, or know someone who is, I encourage you to connect with the many resources Emory offers to support our students’ health and well-being. A list of these resources is below, and online here.

Together with your deans, I also urge you to reach out if you are experiencing academic challenges. Please talk with your faculty instructors, whom I’ve encouraged to work with you to support your success during a difficult time. You can also contact your academic advisor or the academic support services office for your school or program if you need individual advice or assistance.

Our faculty, staff, and leadership team are here to help you learn, grow, and flourish, even in the face of challenges. In this same spirit, I encourage us all to continue extending kindness and grace to each other in the days ahead, and to ourselves by seeking support if we need it.

Sincerely,

Provost Ravi V. Bellamkonda
