Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter

The former U.S. president and Nobel laureate spoke to first-year students annually as part of the Carter Town Hall, established in 1982. The town halls continue today, featuring guest speakers since Carter's retirement. The nonprofit Carter Center partners with Emory to advance human rights and health worldwide and houses Carter's presidential archive.

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama participates in periodic campus programs with faculty and students. He helps advance Emory's study abroad program in Dharamsala, India, as well as Emory College's Emory-Tibet Partnership, which supports sustained intellectual exchanges between Western science and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
